Shanti lives a remote rural area of mid-west Nepal. There are no roads connecting villages in this area, just paths for walking and motorbikes. About 40,000 people live here. Most people are farmers but poor soil, erratic weather and lack of skills mean they can’t grow enough food. Health knowledge is poor and access to health services limited so child malnutrition and preventable diseases are common. Education quality is poor and drop-out rates high.

Judith lives in a rural area in northern Uganda. The climate is hot and tropical and about 33,000 people live here. The region has been deeply affected by years of conflict. A lack of tools and skills makes it hard for farmers to grow enough to feed their families. Dirty water and poor sanitation lead to the spread of diseases. Health services are limited and many children miss out on education because schools lack basic facilities and equipment.

Only 36% of children attend preschool levels, 26% of children do not attend school, and 22% of girls are still being married before the legal age of 18.
