Covid Crisis in India
We urgently need your help
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating effect in the rural areas of India.
On the 8th May, India reported 403,405 new cases of coronavirus, setting a world record for a second day running. Deaths were numbered at over 4,000 people in 24 hours.
Due to the overwhelming numbers of people with Covid here in this township, the local hospital, (Sri Narayani Hospital) is now at capacity. They also already have 50 people waiting to be admitted with Covid. It is truly heart-breaking.
The largest guest house (Kamalanivas) has now been turned into a Covid hospital to meet the growing demands. This accomodation will provide an additional 90 beds for patients in great need, but will also put more strain on an already overstretched system. They need basic medical supplies like gloves, masks, hand sanitiser and PPE kits.
As of early May 85% of those tested at the Sri Narayani Peedam Hospital are COVID positive. There are not enough ventilators or oxygen and many people are dying from lack of oxygen while waiting for a bed, which can take up to 3 days to become available. As a result, the hospital is urgently hoping to more than double its ICU capacity and add 50% more general beds for medium to mild patient care.
It is clear that there is a humanitarian crisis of significant proportions in India.
Help-A-School-Foundation is partnering with Sri Narayani Peedam to provide additional food, medical equipment and essential supplies during this critical time. Your contribution will allow us to provide this urgent relief to families in South India.
We need your help to raise $425,000 AUD to support the most urgent needs right now.
